The State Threatre events 09/14/2009 to 12/10/2009 Contact Events at (727)895.3045 http://www.statetheatreconcerts.com/ Constructed in 1924, the State Theatre is an outstanding example of Beaux-arts style architecture. At the time of its construction, the State Theatre’s 6000 sq. ft. made it one of the largest banks in St. Petersburg. Its original use as the Alexander National Bank lasted only two years until Jacob Alexander died in December of 1926. During part of 1927, the building was occupied by the Gregory Electric Refrigeration Company but by 1928 sat vacant. The Fidelity Bank and Trust Company purchased the building in July of 1929. The stock market crash in October of that same year was too much for the local economy and the Fidelity Bank, like most St. Petersburg banks, was forced to close. After Fidelity’s liquidation in 1931, the building was used for a succession of small office tenants until 1949 when it was remodeled into the State Theatre. Neel Reid was the architect who designed the original building and was also responsible locally for the Alexander Hotel. In 1949 another notable architect, Archie Parrish of St. Petersburg, remodeled the building. The facade of the State Theatre is a symmetrical composition of three bays. The bays are defined by engaged pilasters expressed as a series of quoins above a projected water table base topped by an ionic capital with an attached swag. A projected cornice with a simple entablature tops the facade. Above this is a parapet divided into three corresponding bays again divided by projecting pilasters. Each of the three main bays contains a pair of ionic columns on a block base supporting a banded arch with an engaged keystone with an acanthus motif. A stylized bas-relief eagle fills the space between the sides of the three arches and the engaged pilasters. The original fenestration was removed at the time of the 1949 remodeling when the openings at the side bays were filled, and a new contemporary projecting marquis was added at the central bay above the theater doors. A later renovation into a concert venue included the installation of glass blocks at the two side arches.

I was surfing the internet looking for up coming events to post to our business website when I stumbled across this:

https://www.dreamhousecharityfl.com/v1/Featured_Home.php

Now I am not a betting type of person but I do believe in supporting the area foster children program. For the past 4 or 5 years I have tried to support the Foster Angle Program, they collect gifts for the children in foster care; my heart always goes out to the teenagers in the system, why? Because of all the kids out there I feel they are the forgotten and at a time in their life when you need a parent to help you with life’s challenges and to help them the college or Voc tech school, what to do about a boyfriend or girlfriend. Who is helping this young people? A lot of them live in shettlers with other teenagers, these young people did ask for the life they’ve been given, that is why I call them the forgotten. So every year I try to make some difference even if it is making cookies for the kids, just so they know out there someone is thinking about them, they are not forgotten. You may say why aren’t you a foster parent, well I did go through the program with my 1st husband, but we had a very sick child and lived in a 900 sq ft home with our 4 children, not what the program is looking for, than our marriage did not last. Now I work 7 days a week to care for my children and do not have the extra time it takes to raise more children.

http://www.sarasota-ymca.org/socialServices/fosterCareServicesDetail.cfm?serID=1

Now back to the link, how I figure this it has pretty good odds and not at such a high cost, it is for a good cause the children in Manatee County Child Services and you can possible win a home.

In today rental market For Rent By Owner has become really popular, renters believe they are being savvy make deals directly through owners, but is it a real deal? Let us go over the issues you may run into when you rent through owners.

Where does the owners live? Why does this matter? Well if you get locked out in the middle of the night, who is going to help you and at what cost?

If the A/C or Heater breaks who is going to fix it? Can you get hold of the owner 24 hrs a day?

What if the owner over books their home, and you don’t find out until you are at the front door? Where are you going to stay and how are you going to get reimbursed?

What if you get to the rental and it isn’t what you expected? What if it is not clean? Does the owner have other homes where they can put you?

What if the home is in foreclosure? Is the owner going to tell you?

What if the property burns down?

Yes, the owner may have a company that manages their unit, but if they are renting to you directly will the management company take care of you or will you have to call the owner? In most cases they will not be able to move you to another place due to the fact you paid the owner, the management company doesn’t have those funds to move you to another place.

These are only a few issues For Rent By Owner may encounter. So when you are planning a vacation you may want to think about what can happen if you are renting directly through an owner. You may be saving a few dollars, but what about peace of mind how much is that worth?

Being a vacation rental company we have seen the above issues guest have with renting through an owner. When you are looking for your next vacation rental try looking at Vacation Management Companies and compare your saving and what is being offered to you. Visit us on the web and check out our SPECIALS page.

With all the stories about Anna Maria Island in some of the top papers, “New York Times”, “Washington Post” , and”Island Magazine”being Florida best secret or one of the worlds best vacation spots for families. Also recently on the “Today Show ” Barbara one of the sharks on “Shark Tank” spoke about buying in the Sarasota Area now she put in the top 10 places to buy now. Our market has seen it’s ups and downs in recent years, but it looks like we should be hitting an up swing. Forecloser properties selling pretty quickly since everyone is looking for the best deals out there and short sales becoming very popular there are deals to be had. See attached Fannie Mae Site http://www.homepath.com/search/FL_081.html?ps=10 this is for Manatee County, the first house on Jack Skip Loop is a great buy newer home 3/2 for only $145,000.00 there are also some older homes under $80,000.00 just take a look. You can buy a home in Bradenton for under $200,000 and it not be a short sale. Condos in Bradenton can be bought for under $80,000 or less if it needs work. I believe things have leveled off in our area anything that is a good deal is not going to last. If you are the fixer upper type you can get a real steal, but remember the time and work you’ll have to put into it .If you are not the fixer upper type you are better off paying more and have a move in ready house so you don’t get in over your head. So if you are thinking about buying in our area in the next year you may want to start looking now, while there are still plenty of deals to be had. If you planning a trip to our area check out our website for a great rental at http://Islandvacationproperties.com or call us at 800-778-9599 in the US, 1808-120-2338 toll free from the UK or 0800-181-6302 toll free from Germany.

SUN PHOTO/MIKE FIELD Ginny and Jane E’s at the Old IGA
was one of the charming places highlighted in Islands
magazine’s article on the World’s 14 Best Islands for Families.

“Quaint,” according to Webster, means “marked by beauty or elegance, unusual or different in character or appearance, pleasingly or strikingly old-fashioned.”

That’s Anna Maria Island, according to the November issue of Islands magazine, which names it the Best Quaint Island in the world for family vacations.

The Island is ranked alongside 13 others as exotic as Tahiti’s Bora Bora and Hawaii’s Kauai.

While selecting family-friendly island vacation destinations, the magazine considered factors such as opportunities for discovery and family bonding, easy accessibility, fun amenities and roomy accommodations.

At the top of its checklist for quaintness is the absence of large resorts and chain restaurants on Anna Maria Island.

“Big resorts? No. Chain restaurants? No. Miles-long beach? Oh yes,” says the Islands magazine article. “All that makes for beautifully charming days on Anna Maria Island, just a drawbridge removed from the Florida mainland.”

While the main attractions listed are the beach and the warm Gulf of Mexico, others include crème brûlée French toast at Ginny and Jane E’s at the Old IGA in Anna Maria, the Sandbar restaurant’s beachfront dining, jerk grouper sandwiches from the Banana Cabana, perfect for a sunset picnic at Coquina Beach, and the in-room massages at the Tortuga Inn Beach Resort in Bradenton Beach.

The other islands mentioned in the article are: best for learning, Barbados; best back-to-nature trip, Heron Island, Australia; best for family reunions, Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands; best all-American escape, Duck Key, Fla.; best for history lessons, Capri, Italy; best swimming pool, Bora Bora, Tahiti; best unplugged vacation, Kauai, Hawaii; best easy exotic, Castaway Island, Fiji; best family compound, Jumby Bay, Antigua; best off-road fun, Green Turtle Cay, Bahamas; best eco exploration, Maui, Hawaii; best direct flight surprise, Tenerife, Canary Islands; and best quick weekend trip, Catalina, Calif.

I have lived in Florida most of my life and had never been to Sea World Orlando, so this weekend I went to Sea World. I went with my sister age 46 and my son age 17, now we love Busch Gardens Tampa Florida, and enjoy a good roller coaster ride. Sea World doesn’t offer a lot of roller coaster, they really only have two roller coaster and a water ride. Manta is their latest roller coaster and it is great, you ride facing down it twist and turns and is pretty long for a roller coaster, a must for any roller coaster lover. Kracken is their other roller coaster a close cousin to Montu at Busch Gardens, the water ride is some where between the Flume and Tidal Wave at Busch Gardens; my sister and I had a good laugh on that ride when we barely got wet and my son got soaked (he rode in the front). the rest of the day we went to shows fed the sharks, rays, dolphins and sea loins. It was great to be able to see all the aquariums and touch the rays and for my son to touch the dolphins. I also enjoyed seeing the Manatees, Sea Dragons (sea horses), penguins We got to the park at 9am and didn’t leave until after 5pm, it was a full day and we all had a good time, it was the first time in a long time I didn’t leave a park with a head ache. I would recommend Sea World to anyone who enjoys sea life, animal shows and one good roller coaster ride.
